xxx, i've been thinking about that too. i'm sure i'm not the only person reading this thread who subconsciously changed their approach a little when dellicious said they were female-bodied. but having this conversation with another female-bodied persyn is different. to some extent, there is common ground and common experience shared between us as female-bodied people. that said, this isn't exclusively about biological identity at all. people of any and every gender identification use derogatory language, and people of every gender identification can feel marginalized by it.

female is a perfectly fine way to identify one's self, as is male and a million other things. the point of contemporary gender theory is not to eliminate gender (i.e. physical expresssion, sense of self, the sexual body, etc), but to open gender up to the wide variety of persynal identifications and experiences. basically, this recognizes that there are as many genders as there are people, and if some people find similarities between their gender identities and those of others, then why not identify with them (don't we all identify as a part of some community/category/scene/whatever?). and to me, this amounts to a total deconstruction (destruction?) of what gender and sex mean, effectively challenging gender essentialism, patriarchy, heterosexism, and cis-normativity. i obviously don't want a world where one aspect of one's body determines so much, but i also find no problem with people of similar experience/expression of self/etc finding commonality within a world where gender is both fluid and persynally determined. what is it that wolfi says in one piece - he doesn't want to make the world one androgynous group, but to open up the possibilities of expresssion? makes sense to me. i'm definitely interested in these sort of conversations, but not particularly interested in the ones that preceded it, as we've had them a million times before. i also generally hate disembodied debate, so i may only reply occasionally. i just wanted to say that i am going to respond directly to a whole slew of stuff in this, but i don't have the time right now. kinda just wanted to say that in case it gets buried under a load of new responses.

i think we should stay on topic here. the thread is about natural disasters, and why theyre happening... etc... dellicious made comments about roaring inside's opinion being similar to ridiculous christian thought. are we done talking about that? let's make a new thread about gender where we can discuss that subject. ryfrecords.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=discuss&thread=335
