alex, i think you should just just carry your friends albums. let them put out their own stuff. you've lost money on this. its cool you put out their stuff however let them put out their own stuff and your carry it. like a distro. this may be the best idea. but plan-it-x totally just stole my thunder and announced they will be done as of next summer. i think im just gonna stick to digital downloads, tapes and vinyl when worth it (ex: bands that will actually go on tour). what i took for this is, i am now part owner of RFY records

Y'all really let jer get to you. He's a critical person and probably disagrees with something about each of us; no one has to prove him wrong or live up to his standard. Him and I don't really quarrel because when we relate, we do so on common ground.
Tapes can be a practical form of DIY distro. It's also trendy and hip 'cause it's 'analog'. It's okay to just disagree. Most of the personality and interest-based differences argued over here aren't even constructive discussion, but rather boring attacks and arguments leading to no actual conclusion.
As far as interests and preferences go, let's just live up to our own standard and not the "hidden panel" of judges' standard (so they say..). I don't really mind if you think pancakes are awesome or if you think it's cool to dumpster dive or if you reject hipster principles. Maybe it's cause I'm across the country, but I don't really see any of those things having an effect on interpersonal relations, especially on a digital level, as this is.
On the other hand, constructive dialogue is something I do like, but majority of the disagreements/arguments here don't really fit that category; they're more so character critiques than anything else.

what's wrong with critiquing peoples character? i think it's important to call into question whatever it is that we are. if we enjoy pancakes, why? if we enjoy dumpstering, why? if we think having a tape label is cool, why? why do these things line up with whatever life we're trying to create? just because it's another "interest" or "like" doesn't mean we shouldn't look critically at why we're interested in them, why we want to do them or why we decide to like these things. i think everything that we do says something about who we are--and i'm interested in lining myself up with people who i can, as closely as possible, support on all levels and i think that IS constructive.

yeah, i think its really important and constructive to look within in myself and ask honestly why it is that i like pancakes.

yeah, i think its really important and constructive to look within in myself and ask honestly why it is that i like pancakes. the only thing you need to importantly look at is why you eat them like an asshole! on a more "serious" note, what i was trying to get at is when we start listing off things we like we should look constructively at what it is that we like and why we like them. funny that you make a joke of that because some friends of yours might make the argument that you like pancakes because there is sugar in them and you're addicted--right?

I just don't really see anything justifiably beneficial from that sort of squabble. I do, though, find humor in the varied responses to the critiques I've seen, as I wouldn't have taken 'em very seriously myself.
